Honours Project

Hi folks.

Third year of uni is nearing an end and so many opportunities and new things have presented themselves since going Napier. From being accepted to go to China for 3 weeks in may, to getting feedback from working people in the vfx industry.

But now the important part of this post. The Honours Project. So my idea for my four year is a visual effects project. But a vfx shot with a twist. I want to create and composite a believable vfx shot integrating a 3d object into live action, while comparing traditional methods of asset creation and 3d scanning using technologies such as LIDAR scanning and 3d scanning using a kinect system.

Even though the main aim of the project is to compare workflows of cg integration, I will also improve on my compositing skills subsequently creating a good showreel piece to apply for jobs with.

Due to the unfamiliar technology and unknown software. Several tests before honours year will have to take place to ensure the project goes ahead properly. In addition, I need to make sure my skills in Nuke and other foundry applications will be up to scratch, so I have a busy summer ahead of me. But will be a lot of fun. I have high hopes for this project and will be documenting this every step of the way.

Anyway. That's enough from me for now. More updates to follow.

Cheers
